I need to get my eyeballs on some great documentaries and independent films. Email or re-blagh with you favorites.
Grey Gardens, Powers of Ten, Koyaanisqatsi and Baraka, Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould, Thin Blue Line, Hoop Dreams, Crumb, 28 Up (and its follow ups), The Endless Summer, The Times of Harvey Milk, Streetwise, When We Were Kings, Buena Vista Social Club, My Architect.
Just a few off the top of my head that I’ve seen and loved.
From the liner notes of my Gladys CD, “I Love Jesus, But I Drink A Little”:
“When our Nana Gladys tried to call KLBJ, a local AM radio station here in Austin, she got the FM rock KLBJ by mistake, and was an instant hit! Dale Dudley of the Dudley & Bob Show said “This is my favorite caller of all time!” And so began Gladys’ radio commentaries.”
So it’s cool to see Gladys on tumblr today!
This is great. To all you lowercase writers out there, take note. I bet you don’t use your turn signals, either.
“Let me tell you this: if you meet a loner, no matter what they tell you, it’s not because they enjoy solitude. It’s because they have tried to blend into the world before, and people continue to disappoint them.”—My Sisters Keeper - Jodi Picoult (via chispa)
I don’t know why this should be shocking. When I go to a strip club, it always amazes me how scarily talented some of those women are. It takes an incredible amount of strength and coordination to do a lot of those tricks…and they do it in the most ridiculous shoes ever. They deserve a medal, IMHO.
And I think this woman deserves the gold. She’s incredible.
